The smoke chamber above the damper is often rough, stepped or cracked in older chimneys. We resurface it with a heat-resistant mortar, so the smoke moves up the flue.
Dampers
A damper that sticks, will not close or is rusted through lets heat out and cold air in. We repair or replace it.
Firebox rebuilds
When the brick in the firebox is cracked or crumbling, we rebuild the firebox with new firebrick.

Why does my fireplace smoke into the room?
The usual causes are a blocked flue, a damper that does not open fully, a smoke chamber that needs resurfacing or a flue that is too small or too short for the fireplace. An inspection finds the cause before you pay for a fix.
What is smoke chamber resurfacing?
The smoke chamber is the space between the damper and the flue. In older chimneys its brick is often stepped or cracked. Resurfacing coats it with a smooth layer of heat-resistant mortar.
Can you rebuild a damaged firebox?
Yes. When the firebox brick is cracked or crumbling, we rebuild it with new firebrick. Repairs are quoted per job at a flat rate after an inspection, and repair jobs need a 50% deposit.
Do you repair gas fireplaces?
Yes. We repair and service gas fireplaces, and we check the chimney or vent that serves them.
Can you fix a damper that will not close?
Yes. We repair stuck or damaged dampers or replace them, depending on what the inspection shows.
