Chimney extension in Brooklyn and Manhattan
A chimney that sits too low can smoke into the room or draw poorly. We extend it above the roofline so it can vent the way it should.

What a chimney extension includes
A look at the height and the draft
We start on the roof and at the fireplace or appliance. Height above the roof, nearby walls and the way the chimney draws all tell us whether it needs to go higher.
Extending the chimney
We build the chimney up from where it ends now. The extension is made to sit on your existing chimney and match it, whether that is brick or a parged finish.
New appliances and failed inspections
A flue sometimes has to go higher for a new boiler or water heater, or after an inspection finds the chimney too short. We extend it to fit the job.
Houses and larger buildings
We extend chimneys on row houses and homes, and on apartment buildings and commercial properties. The quote comes before any work starts, at a flat rate and not by the hour.
Chimney extension questions
How do I know my chimney is too short?
Smoke backing into the room, a fireplace that draws poorly, odors coming down the flue, or an inspection that flags the height are the usual signs. We check the chimney against the roof around it before we say it needs more height.
Will an extension fix a smoking fireplace?
Sometimes. A short chimney is one cause of smoke and draft trouble, but a blocked flue, a damaged smoke chamber or a damper problem can cause it too. We inspect first, so you pay for the fix that matches the cause. See chimney repairs.
Can you extend a chimney for a new boiler or appliance?
Yes. A new appliance can change what the flue needs. We look at the chimney and the appliance together, and a liner may go in with the extension. See boiler and water heater venting.
Is the extension quoted before you start?
Yes. We inspect the chimney, give you a flat-rate quote for the job, and start only after you agree to it.
Does the chimney get a cap after it is extended?
It can. The top of a longer chimney is a good time to add or replace a cap, which keeps rain and birds out. See chimney caps.
